Limitations & chllenges

The constraint of human and financial resources poses a significant challenge in delivering a flawless product with a seamless user experience.

Objectives:

The team responsible for product development must assess a range of design schemes to guarantee the seamless day-to-day operation of the BoardX beta version, while concurrently ensuring that the product remains aligned with the long-term strategic plan.

The BoardX homepage was designed and developed in collaboration with Thien Luh Tay. Thanks for his help!

This version of BoardX is mainly focused on the designers with their specific scenarios:

User Profile & User Journey

To solve Andi's pain points when collaborating online and conducting workshops, we set a design sprint to build up his user journey map.

Problem 1:

How to engage the audience and manage their attention?

Drawing upon our experience principles and user journey, Andi acknowledges the significance of sustaining engagement among the audience and fostering a favorable atmosphere during workshops.

Simultaneous and Seamless Collaboration & Attention Management

Solution for 1
45.png

Solution 1:

All participants in the workshop were able to collaborate and work concurrently on the same digital space or board, with the added ability to take on the role of an attention manager.

'Bring People to Me'

Facilitator's View:

Could the audience exit the following mode?

Individuals may have diverse tasks even when collaborating on the same digital board, hence it is imperative to provide them with the flexibility to exit the follow mode at their discretion. However, a crucial aspect to consider is how to recapture their attention once they return after an absence.

The pink border reminds me I’m in the following mode, and I can click the STOP button to exit the following mode and also easier to REJOIN!

8.png

The white reminder banner would always be there, which could help re-bring people’s attention and keep the flexibility in a workshop without interrupting what they are doing.

Audience's View:

SOLUTION 1.1 for FUTURE

Also, Andi should be allowed to only bring specific people to him

Andi and his team are working on the same board, and he'd like to help a few people keep up with his progress without interrupting others.

21.png

Unlike bring everyone to me, bring someone/s to me needs a search function to support finding specific people in a large group.

8.png

The 'bring people to me,' will automatically make people join the following mode, but the specific invitation receivers need a confirmation.

It's a great way to avoid users' confusion if everyone is on the same stage with me or I was the only one to be invited.

SOLUTION 1.2 for FUTURE

Design-thinking workshop conductors often encounter a common challenge while conducting brainstorming or idea sketching sessions. The optimal approach is to refrain from sharing ideas among participants to enable the generation of a greater number of ideas. Subsequently, the results can be consolidated for discussion and analysis.

Bring people here and there

A specific area can be selected on the infinite canvas on BoardX, we can manage people’s attentions more flexible.

Problem 2:

What measures can we take to ensure that BoardX is accessible for users utilizing mobile or tablet devices to participate in the workshop?

It is imperative that we ensure seamless user collaboration while operating within the confines of our limited resources. Additionally, we must ensure that the features supported on mobile and tablet devices deliver a satisfactory user experience.

Make the best use of the advantages & bypass the disadvantages of different devices

Solution for 2

Solution 1 (decide feature scope):

We only include 'Sticky note,' 'upload file,' and 'draw' in the mobile version.

The restricted screen size of mobile devices renders it challenging to support macro views of the whiteboard and precise design elements. However, mobile devices are equipped with convenient photo-taking capabilities and speedy upload functionality, which is not as readily achievable on the desktop version.

Tablets, on the other hand, facilitate the addition of aesthetically pleasing handwritten content through the use of the Apple Pencil, enabling quick upload to the whiteboard.

Solution 2 (How to add?):

Choose the most suitable solution to help users interact on the whiteboard

Frame 2213.png

Solution 3 (sticky notes & interaction):

Simplify the feature of sticky notes on mobile devices, and improve user experience through smart automatic zoom interaction.

By displaying the 'lock' and 'undo/redo' features on the top right corner of the interface, we can mitigate user error on the whiteboard, particularly on mobile devices where operation can be cumbersome. This design improvement significantly enhances the overall user experience.
